Adeline Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) was an English writer and literary critic, the leading figure of the modernist literature of the first half of the twentieth century. She also was part of a group of English intellectuals, writers, and artists, graduates of Cambridge, called the Bloomsbury group. "Jacob's Room" is a novel that tells the story of a young man Jacob Flanders. The plot describes his life through a series of scenes, starting with his childhood, then studying at Cambridge, love adventures in London, travels to Europe, all up to his death in the war. This novel established Woolf's reputation as a highly poetic writer who emphasizes the inner world of her characters.
