Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) - a famous English writer and one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century.
For two decades, Woolf played a significant role in London literary society and was a central figure in the influential Bloomsbury Group of intellectuals. Her works are considered as classic examples of stream of consciousness. Woolf's best-known works include the novels Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and Orlando, and the book-length essay A Room of One's Own, with its dictum, "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction".
Orlando (1928) describes the adventures of a poet who changes sex from man to woman and lives for centuries, meeting the key figures of English literary history. Considered a feminist classic, the book has been written about by scholars of women's writing and gender studies.
