Gustav Klimt: A. Hodge

The Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt is perhaps best known for his works The Kiss and the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (The Woman in Gold) with their luminous use of gold and silver leaf, but he was also an accomplished draughtsman and landscape artist.

This book follows Klimt's life and work from his early studies during the Belle Epoque era through his involvement in the Vienna Secession movement to his position as a teacher of, and influence on, the likes of Egon Schiele. It explores the inspirations and subjects that led this remarkable visionary to experiment with a variety of media and create works as diverse as decorations for the theatres and palaces of Vienna, textile designs, romantic landscapes, and sensual, often erotic, representations of womanhood.
